Creation, Destruction, Construction

2019

This project focuses on the evolution of humans. Starting off with creation, being located in the center. The photographs branch out on both sides to create life. When I think of the word ‘creation’, I think of religion. I went with religious objects to represent creation. I placed Mary in the center because she is a part of the religious creation. Next to her, I have two church photographs to show the process of humankind evolving, but still reliant on creation. Then, next to those two, I have two photographs of houses to illustrate the continuation of human creation but moving farther away from creation. Then from those photographs, I move to construction sites to represent the continuation of human advancements and rapid production. Thus, straying away from the natural world. Then, I move on to destruction, to oppose the creation photographs. The destruction photographs are represented as the trash left behind from humans and their carelessness for creation. In the one trash photograph, I left the natural sun glare because it represents the “spirit” of creation looking at the destruction of the world.  All of these photographs together are supposed to convey the demolition of the pure Earth and showcase the harm humankind has created over time.
